Internet Watch Foundation publishes results of independent Hotline inspection
22 August 2011
The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) regularly invites experts from a range of relevant professional backgrounds to carry out an inspection of its Hotline process and staff support mechanisms against external policies with a view to providing independent reassurance to their Members, Government and parties with a particular interest in IWF affairs.
On 30th March 2011 a team of experts headed by Commander Allan Gibson (Metropolitan Police Service) conducted such an inspection at the IWF premises.
The inspection panel found the IWF to be a highly motivated organisation, staffed by conscientious individuals who are generally anxious to make the right decisions. Whilst a number of recommendations have been made to the Board they are fundamentally about tweaking the systems in place through adding more value to the processes and skills already established. The IWF have been encouraged to take these steps to maintain its high standards, particularly given its impending change of premises and leadership.
Overall, the view of the approach taken by the IWF was a positive one and in the inspection panel's opinion the IWF merits the trust placed in it by the industry and the wider public.
