Other areas of the IWF website

Reporting form
This area is not listed in the menu on the left hand side of the website as the other areas are, but you can reach the reporting form from any page of the website by clicking on the 'Report Illegal Content Click Here' icon at the top right hand side of any page and via the large red button in the centre of the home page.

The reporting area is a key part of the IWF website as it is where visitors can report content they have been inadvertently exposed to or seen on the internet, which they believe to be potentially illegal.

This is the IWF 'hotline' service. Operating this hotline for the public is a core function of the IWF.

For a description of the potentially illegal content you can report click here. You can only report content that falls into one of these categories.

In this area there is a step-by-step guide on how to complete the form, which is all done online. We ask that all reports are submitted via this online form. This allows us to capture all the necessary information required for us to assess the complaint effectively. This means that we are unable to accept reports  or complaints by email or telephone.

Visitors can submit reports regarding potentially illegal content from websites, emails, news groups and other similar online areas.

When completing a report visitors have the option to provide their details or report anonymously.

To find out what happens to your report click here.

In this area we also list 'Known Issues' to alert reporters about emails and websites we have already been notified of. This means they do not need to submit a report as we have already followed an appropriate course of action relating to these complaints.

Public Area
This area is for the general public to gain further general information about the Internet Watch Foundation.

From here, you can access background information on regulation of the internet and how the IWF came into being, a description of our role and remit, a summary of relevant laws, some information about the Hotline; what it does and how it operates.

There is a section on how to protect yourself online with links to other relevant organisations that provide best practice recommendations. There is information on filtering options, an overview of website rating and the Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA), IWF success stories and  information on public campaigns as well as an option to provide us with feedback on the website itself.
